Situated just about 50 miles east of Prague, this medieval silver mining town is mainly visited for the Sedlec Ossuary. This Baroque chapel set just outside of the town is decorated with over 40,000 human bones of the victims of the Black Death and the Hussite Wars in the 14th and 15th centuries.
The Gothic St. Barbara’s Church, a part of the UNESCO World Heritage, is also worth visiting.
Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary is the gem of Western Bohemia. This spa town attracts thousands of tourists each year. And not only for the curative hot springs but also for its annual International Movie Festival.
The colorful neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance architecture and the peaceful collonades, all nestled in a lush valley, make Karlovy Vary the perfect weekend getaway.
Bohemian Switzerland National Park
Sandstone mountains, gorges, rock ravines, canyons, and pristine nature. That’s Bohemian Switzerland. It sits in the north-western Czech Republic, right against Saxon Switzerland National Park in Germany, and offers trails crossing from one country to the other for the ultimate hiking experience.
Even though there are plenty of paths to walk and spots to see, Pravcicka Brana is a must to glimpse. This 16-meter tall and 27-meter wide rock formation is actually the largest sandstone rock arch in Europe and one of the most scenic natural monuments in the whole of Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Karlstejn
Founded in 1348 by Charles IV, the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, this Gothic castle was built as his private residence and for safekeeping royal treasures, including holy relics and the Imperial Crown Jewels. It was reconstructed by Czech architect Josef Mocker in a purist neo-Gothic style when it gained its present appearance.
Today, visitors can enjoy a tour through the five-story Imperial Palace and the Chapel of the Holy Cross, featuring 129 paintings by Master Theodoric, a replica of the Royal Crown of Bohemia, and a unique castle well.
Brno
Even though Brno is the second largest town in the Czech Republic, it doesn’t get much attention. At the same time, it’s also home to some great sights, as well as a significant digital nomad community.
